Many players had a role to play in the season of Wrexham. For years, this is a club that ended up in the lower leagues due to poor management and coaching. But now, things have changed. They are back in the EFL League Two and aim to get back-to-back promotions.
With the aid of manager Phil Parkinson, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney made great recruitment choices for their soccer team. One of those signings was Ben Foster, the former England international goalkeeper. However, the players were far from convinced when he arrived at the club.
Initially, there were doubts about the player’s ability to perform under pressure as he came in to replace the first-choice goalkeeper, Rob Lainton. In a recent interview, club forward Ollie Palmer explained how players had initial doubts.

Wrexham players had doubts regarding Ben Foster’s ability to perform
In the interview, Palmer revealed his thoughts about Foster’s arrival. He stated, “I’ll tell you the truth. The ball has come into him, and he’s just pinged it out of play under no pressure. I’m like ‘Who the f*** is this guy’? The ball has come into him, and everyone is like, ‘Yeah Fozz [Foster] is class’. England, Watford, Man Utd [his ex-clubs]. And I’m talking backpass, that my daughter could kick back. So it comes back to him, and he punches it – straight off the hill.”
The hilarious story puts us into the training ground picture at Wrexham. The club is a healthy place for all to play to their fullest. Likewise, Ben Foster thoroughly agreed with Palmer’s story by stating, “That’s a true story!”
It is natural to feel this way when a new player lands at the club. Yet Foster passed the test with flying colors. One of the secrets to Foster’s success is the unending determination to succeed at all costs. That became visible during the team’s victory over rivals Notts County.
