For a player criticized for off-field issues and injury concerns, Joe believes he nurtured out an astute deal. In a recent podcast, Pompliano commented, “Neymar ended up doing it at 31 years old despite a bunch of other players like Ronaldo, like Messi, Benzema winning Ballon d’Ors in their 30s, meanwhile left at 31, because he was not going to get an offer close to someone else. Who wants Neymar right?”

For years, he entertained fans with samba skills and Ronaldinho-esque creativity on the pitch. But recently, injuries dampened his progress, and the failure to win the UEFA Champions League proved indecisive. Despite wanting to leave the French club, the potential suitors remained scarce. And so, he took the best deal he was offered. Pompliano continued, “You can talk about the skill. You can talk about he is an amazing player, amazing talent. But, with some concerns about fitness and other things off the field and like that, there is not a serious team who is willing to pay top dollar for him to come.”

As for Neymar, he received the perfect deal one could ask for. Apart from the $100 million-a-year contract, the bonuses and perks are endless. Joe ended by stating, “Both for the transfer fee and also on a salary basis. So Saudi was by far the best option. He gave PSG out, and it gave Neymar a bunch of cash. That’s great for all parties involved.”
