Two days ago, there were reports that Manchester City were following a 14-year-old American prodigy by the name of Cavan Sullivan. In the blink of an eye, transfer guru and journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Sky Blues have agreed to a deal to sign the highly-rated youngster. Family and Background
Cavan Sullivan was born in 2009 to a family based in Philadephia. It’s safe to say that sporting talent runs in the family. His older brother Quinn plays for Philadelphia Union and the United States U-20 team. Also, his 15-year-old twin brothers, Ronan and Declan also play soccer, though their games may not be as polished. Cavan’s father, Brendan Sullivan was also quite passionate about soccer. But per Brendan, it was Cavan Sullivan’s grandfather Larry to whom the family owes their love for the beautiful game.

Larry Sullivan, Baseball was the primary sport and soccer was second. However, one trip to Vietnam changed it all. Someone shot Larry in the hand and he lost 3 of his fingers. This meant the end of his Baseball career and as a result, he just immersed himself in soccer. And the subsequent generations too acquired this love for the game.

Current Club and Playstyle
Despite being just 14 years old, Cavan Sullivan plays for the Philadelphia Union U-17 team. His rapid development saw him feature for the Philadelphia Union II in pre-season. Union II coach Marlon LeBlanc said that the starlet would be fully integrated into the side after the GA Cup (youth tournament) from March to April. However, with his transfer to Manchester City almost finalized, the coaches wouldn’t have much time to work with him.
Former USMNT star Taylor Twellman has described Cavan as the ‘the best 14-year-old in the world’. Furthermore, he even added that Cavan could be an asset to Union’s first team in the MLS. Cavan Sullivan is a graceful left-footed attacking midfielder. He possesses incredible vision and an eye for a goal. Characteristics that perfectly fit the mould of a Manchester City midfielder.

Cavan is expected to be initially loaned to City Football Group club Lommel SK when he turns 16. Furthermore, he will not be able to play for Manchester City until he turns 18 since he doesn’t have an EU passport. Regardless, this is a great signing for Guardiola and Co. as Cavan could dazzle the Etihad in the coming decades.
