USWNT and Gotham FC star Crustal Dunn just returned from a successful CONCACAF W Gold Cup triumph. Now the 31-year-old heads into 2024 gearing up for massive tournaments like the Olympics and the NWSL. But the journey is fresh again with Dunn moving and opting out of Portland Thorns claiming that she did not feel valued. However, as she arrived at Gotham FC, she was also accompanied by her husband, Pierre Soubrier who was banned last year from NWSL.

After a successful NWSL season last year that fell short of the playoffs, Dunn is heading to New Jersey for a new challenge. This move will also reunite her with her husband once again, who has been a familiar face at her previous teams. Let’s delve deeper.

Crystal Dunn’s better half, Pierre Soubrier was born and brought up in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. According to reports, he is 36 years old and currently works as a consultant for Gotham FC joining earlier this year. Soubrier was also a soccer player at college in Quinnipiac, Connecticut and before that, he also trained at Toulouse Football Club Academy when was 11 years old. Subsequently, he and his family moved to Portland when he was 17.

The husband of the 2019 World Cup Winner graduated from Quinnipiac University and later started his career in sports medicine. Soubrier worked as an athletic trainer for multiple NWSL clubs including Washington Spirit and Portland Thorns. It is his spell with the Washington Spirit that united him with Crystal Dunn.

A shared love for soccer brought Crystal Dunn and Pierre Soubrier together as they bonded over watching the World Cup in 2015. Their connection grew, leading to marriage in 2018. The couple welcomed their son, Marcel, in May 2022. Interestingly, their professional lives have also intertwined, with Pierre working as a trainer at some of the same teams Crystal has played for. Post Washinton, Soubrier moved to Portland Thorns as a head athletic trainer where Dunn also joined him later. However, the spell ended on a bitter note for the trainer.

Pierre Soubrier was fired from Portland Thorns for a bizarre controversy

It was a strange exit for Soubrier from Portland. Around last year, the 36-year-old Pierre was fired from Thorns following an investigation that suggested he administers a restricted medication illegally. As per multiple reports, he gave two Thorns’ players medicines that contain codeine which cannot be taken without a prescription. Consequently, the trainer was suspended for one year by the league. Nonetheless, the suspension concluded in 2023 giving him another shot at Gotham FC.
