Returning USMNT coach Gregg Berhalter has faced considerable stick since his re-appointment in the summer. Berhalter led the USMNT at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. But there are several reasons for the flak he’s faced. Berhalter is a rather controversial figure for his off-field antics. Earlier this year, he was at the center of a huge controversy and was under scrutiny for reportedly kicking his wife Rosalind Berhalter in 1991.
The incident was brought to light by the U.S. Soccer governing body by the parents of Gio Reyna. The Berhalters have been happily married for 25 years and the USMNT coach was since declared innocent.
However, coming to recent events, Berhalter was in St.Louis where he met former St. Louis national team members and spoke about the region. In an interview as reported by media person Corey Miller on X, Berhalter was quoted saying, “We’ve always viewed St. Louis as the soccer capital of the United States.”
