If you are a Real Madrid fan, there are more reasons for you to stay happy beyond their recent 15th UEFA Champions League win. The much-anticipated move of Kylian Mbappe is set to take place in the coming days. Many questions linger in the minds of fans regarding his move, but the biggest of all remains: which jersey number will he choose at the Bernabeu?

When a toddler, the Frenchman used to idolize Los Blancos’ version of Cristiano Ronaldo, evident with posters on the walls of his room. That explains his desire to wear the number 7 at Paris Saint-Germain. At the national setup, Antoine Greizmann dons this number but Mbappe has been given an even better, number 10. Looking at these most demanding jersey numbers of soccer at Real Madrid, both are currently occupied. While Vinicius Jr. vowed to bear the weight of the iconic 7-number jersey earlier this season as Eden Hazard failed to do so, Luka Modric took the number 10 after James Rodriguez left for Bayern Munich in 2017.

One thinks of the number 11 but that is taken by another talented star, Rodrygo. Hence, this leaves just the number 9, which Mbappe can take up at Real Madrid. The latest person to have worn this number was Karim Benzema, who left for Saudi Arabia last year. Ironically, when Mbappe’s childhood idol Ronaldo came to Bernabeu for the first time, CR7 was also handed over the number 9. Perhaps this could motivate the former Monaco man to happily take this number.

Anyhow, the possibility remains for Mbappe to inherit the No. 10 from Modric in the coming years if the Croatian leaves later. While his jersey number is sorted, what’s his pay gonna be?

The 2018 World Cup winner was making $1.4m per week under his final PSG contract, totaling €75m ($80m) gross annually, plus a €30m ($32m) signing-on bonus. This suggests that Mbappe has taken a significant pay cut to join his dream club, a quality that many Madrid fans would pleased with.
