The framework including the starting day and end day for the NWSL has been revealed. As the competition will begin on 25th March and end on 11th November. However, the Women’s FIFA World Cup is also supposed to take place this year. Taking place in Australia and New Zealand, it will start on 20 July until 20 August.

It was only a matter of time before another U.S. women’s national team star spoke out about the potential scheduling conflict between the FIFA World Cup with the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and Challenge Cup. Megan Rapinoe first called out NWSL through her Instagram story and now Alex Morgan has followed suit.
Alex Morgan states her concern regarding the fixture
In a recent interview with CBS, Morgan talked about the delay in NWSL announcing the schedule for the 2023 season. “I know the schedule hasn’t come out yet, which everyone’s like wondering where the heck the schedule is. So am I,” she jokingly said.

Morgan then went on to talk about her hopes that the NWSL fixture schedule won’t have to clash with the World Cup. “But I am really hopeful that, you know, in the summer when the World Cup is going on, there is somewhat of a break from the regular season, and that’s when Challenge Cup really takes over,” she said. ” Because for me personally, I don’t want to miss a lot of games with San Diego.”

She further added, “I also don’t think that fans should have to choose between watching an NWSL game and a World Cup game. And I think obviously, rosters are going to be depleted during the summer, and so I don’t know what’s gonna go on, but I really hope that that’s the case.”

With both the NWSL and FIFA World Cup sharing in the summer of 2023, it’s inevitable that the two competitions will clash at some point. And while it’s still too early to tell how exactly that will play out, it’s clear that Morgan is already thinking about how to manage her time and commitments.
