Mauricio Pochettino becoming the US Men’s National Team’s coach was not just a rumor. The Argentinian tactician is just one step closer to occupying the vacant managerial chair that remained empty for weeks. It comes to be a relieving update for the fans who’d been hoping to get some news on Gregg Berhalter’s successor. Now, the next question is when Pochettino will officially embark on his USMNT journey. Well, per insider Jeff Carlisle, it may ‘take some time.’
Herculez Gomez alongside Alexis Nunes on ESPN’s Futbol Americas invited the renowned journalist to discuss the former Spurs boss’s imminent move. Gomez asked if Pochettino would be seen in the dugout for the September friendlies or if an interim coach would take over the job before handing over the command to the 52-year-old. Interestingly, Carlisle replied, “The latter option is definitely on the table.”
“We’re only a few weeks away from those September fixtures. Pochettino is going to want to take some time to assemble his staff and also get a lay of the land within the federation, how things work, and who the players are. It would not surprise me to see the October window be the actual debut for Pochettino,” continued the journalist.

Personally, if it had been for Carlisle, he would have wanted to see Poch start tomorrow, as he mentioned that time is of the essence for the Star and Stripes. He also claimed that while having nine windows may sound like a lot of time, it actually isn’t as it has been more than two years since USSF has been grappling with the managerial decision.
However, somewhere near October is a time we may see Mauricio wear the Team USA logo on his chest. However, why the former Chelsea manager would be taking this long?

While Jeff Carlisle emphasized why it’s important for Mauricio Pochettino to start ASAP for the USMNT, he claims there’s is a brighter side to it. “They [Pochettino and USSF] want to make sure the eyes are dotted, the T’s are crossed, and everything is above board so that when he [Pochettino] can start, he can do that with no distractions on the contractual side and is ready to begin his work,” concluded the insider.

Carlisle understands it is a call that rests in the hands of the US Soccer Federation and Pochettino. Of course, the former PSG boss would take his time in selecting the best of the best assistant coaching staff and make them understand the project that it means to the Eagles. In the meantime, the players can also do their homework who will now have a coach that certainly will demand a lot from them.
It echoes the time when Emma Hayes was announced as USWNT boss. While she had to get closure at Chelsea, her assistant Twila Kilgore got familiar with the American ladies by working as an interim coach. Hence, similar could be the case for Pochettino.

And yes, how could we forget to mention the biggest similarity between USWNT and USMNT is that both of their coaches are having a kind of reunion as they used to coach respective Chelsea teams. For now, fans are awaiting an official message regarding the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino.
