Is Alex Morgan the greatest female soccer player of all time, or does someone else take that crown?

The final whistle has gone off for Alex Morgan, the time to hang up her boots has finally arrived. Alex is hands down one of the most iconic players in women’s soccer. But every legend has to leave the field someday! For Alex Morgan, that day is the coming Sunday. She will play her last professional match against North Carolina Courage in the NWSL. After a 15-year-long career, Alex is finally closing her soccer chapter.

But that’s not all—Alex Morgan has even more exciting news! Alongside her incredible career, she’s about to take a big leap in her personal life, announcing that her second baby is on the way. While she’s ready to step off the pitch, Alex leaves behind a legacy that will inspire women for generations to come. Her sports journey has been nothing short of legendary—she’s fifth on the USWNT’s all-time scoring list with 123 goals. Yet, saying goodbye to the team she grew up with is, understandably, an emotional moment for her.

I grew up on this team; it was so much more than soccer,” Morgan shared in her heartfelt retirement post. “It was the friendships, the unwavering respect and support, the relentless push for global investment in women’s sports, and the unforgettable moments of success both on and off the field. I am so incredibly honored to have worn this crest for more than 15 years.

Reflecting on the future, Alex added, “I feel immense pride in where this team is headed, and I will forever be a fan of the USWNT.” Her last match will be a celebration of her remarkable career—a career that includes two glorious Women’s World Cup titles, an Olympic Gold, and a Bronze. “My desire for success may have always driven me, but what I received in return was more than I could have ever asked for,” she said.

Alex did not just set records, she obliterated them. During the 2012 London Olympics, she scored a last-minute goal against Canada in the semi-final. A classic that is still a goal to be remembered in the Olympic lore. But she did not stop there! She went on to stack up World Cup titles, an Olympic gold, and the list goes on. Alex also went on to win the Silver Boot at the 2019 World Cup. However, it was in Portland, Paris, and San Diego that she hit a whole new level.

Alex Morgan went on to win the NWSL Golden Boot in 2022. Off the pitch, Alex leads an equally interesting life.
