USMNT has moved on from Gregg Berhalter after 6 long years of two spells. With the 2026 World Cup taken into account, the US Soccer decided to go stringent on Berhalter after a series of poor performances, but mainly due to their group stage exit from Copa America. However, Berhalter had his moments, bringing back the USMNT into the World Cup after they failed to qualify in 2018, for the first time since 1986. Hence, despite being sacked experts are now evaluating the potential opportunities for the coach as he still has a lot to offer as a manager.

Berhalter’s tenure at USMNT is expected to open a few doors for the manager. According to journalist Paul Tenorio, Berhalter has prospects in the native league. Speaking on CBS Sports’ Golazo, he said, “I would say that the most likely scenario is that he ends up coaching an MLS again. I mean, the first thing I thought of was Atlanta United,” citing a big opening with the Georgia-based club.

Meanwhile, Atlanta is struggling in the MLS, placed 10th in the Eastern Conference. Unable to go beyond round one of playoffs under previous coach Gonzalo Pineda, the club is now looking for a replacement after firing him last month. Hence, Berhalter could find a good chance to revive a team that won the MLS Cup in just their second season under a generous owner Arthur Blank. In addition, he can also head to Sporting KC which also failed to make an impression recently apart from some foreign opportunities.

It appears that Copa America’s performance may hurt Gregg Berhalter’s ambitions, especially in Europe. Only a handful of clubs are looking out for coaches and with high demand, things are even more difficult for Berhalter. Emphasizing this, the reporter further stated, “It’s not easy to break in England or Europe and I think you know ultimately they judge you based on the national team results. Teams in Europe will look at his success in major international tournaments.” However, the 50-year-old can try for a few teams in England like Sheffield United or the Netherlands, apart from a few teams in CONMEBOL and CONCACAF.

However, despite an underwhelming spell with the Stars and Stripes, the last 14 games are claimed to be the reason for Gregg Berhalter’s departure. The USA lost out on the 2023 Gold Cup apart from the recent mishap. The unit’s struggle against elite teams will be an issue for the upcoming manager. But with limited options, where do you think Berhalter would fit in perfectly? Let us know in the comments.
