A few days ago, Wrexham fans got the shock of the season. Goalkeeper Rob Lainton sustained a major injury and was announced as out for the rest of the season. This news has made many fans concerned about the team. However, Ryan Reynolds pulled some strings to get another experienced GK on the team. It was English goalkeeper Ben Foster.
Fans went crazy as soon as they heard the news. The legendary player was with the Welsh club long ago, in 2005. He moved to Manchester United and played there for almost 5 years, just after his Wrexham run. Legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson spotted him when he was making moves for Wrexham.
Now, n a time of need, he decided to come out of retirement and kit up. Not only did Wrexham win the match, but Foster also kept a clean sheet in his second debut for the team.

Foster reminisces about being noticed by Sir Alex Ferguson
It was in 2005 when Foster played for the Welsh club for the first time. He came on a loan from Stoke City. Although, this seemingly small move in his career had a goliath of an impact. It was with Wrexham he got the attention of a legendary soccer manager and within a few months, Foster was in Old Trafford. In a recent talk with Manchester Evening News, Foster talked about that time and how everything came to light.

He said, “If it wasn’t for Wrexham, I wouldn’t have got a move to Manchester United. I was at Stoke for three or four years, I remember going out to Wrexham and it was at Wrexham that it kicked off for me because we had Darren Ferguson, obviously Sir Alex’s son. I remember we played in the LDV Vans final and I remember seeing Alex Ferguson’s face on the telly at the Millennium Stadium.”
The former England international continued, “I did well that game and it was a couple of weeks later, Darren grabbed me and said, ‘My dad’s keeping tabs on you now so just keep going the way you’re going and Man Utd might want to buy you.’ I was like, ‘What?!‘ I was **ting myself! I still had half a dozen games to go. Imagine trying to deal with that when you’re 21 or 22 and haven’t done anything in your career“.

Foster did good for the rest of the season and was bought by Manchester United. And now, he is back in his old home, being part of their revival.
Ben Foster got a great deal from Wrexham
According to Foster himself, he got paid in peanuts for coming back and playing for Wrexham. His deal is more concentrated with Foster getting more exposure. He managed to get significant screen time in ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ season 2. He also got Ryan Reynolds on his podcast and will be vlogging Wrexham matches.
