The Premier League dream is over for Liverpool following their upsetting four-goal draw against West Ham. But the focus was quickly shifted away from the match itself to a troubling incident that unfolded during the game. The shocking bust-up between Mohamed Salah and Jurgen Klopp remains a talking point in the aftermath. But what exactly did the German manager say that ‘blew up‘ the Egyptian King?
“There is going to be fire today if I speak.” These post-match words from Salah became a topic of discussion at ESPN Newsroom among revered analysts. Steve Nicol dipped his toe in the debate saying, “There’s a personal thing with the two of them,” while debunking the air that Liverpool players no longer feel the urge to impress Klopp since he is leaving after the season ends. Yet, the Reds’ icon didn’t rule out ‘some sort of underlying current,’ that made the whole team drop off.

Fellow pundit Alejandro Moreno also agreed with Nicol, asserting that it’s more than just what was said before Salah went on the pitch. Things might be ‘brewing‘ between the two for a while, with Moreno questioning what was so ‘egregious‘ that Jurgen said to Salah and made the winger ‘go crazy’; to the extent that Darwin Nunes had to intervene to cool things off.
“I can’t imagine that it would have been something else other than, ‘Hey Salah, we need you to come out there and make a difference’ and maybe that was enough for Salah to just kind of say, ‘If you want me to make a difference I should have started the game,” concluded Moreno. While these two points showcase the other side of the story, Nicol blamed Klopp for the whole incident.
Does Jurgen Klopp have a ‘problem’ with Mohamed Salah?
Even though the exact cause remains elusive, Steve Nicol pointed the finger at Jurgen Klopp in a similar installment. The pundit brought attention to the ‘dissension‘ that he had never expected to see involving the ex-Dortmund boss. The Red’s icon further acknowledged that it was the ‘little whisper‘ that led to the ‘fireworks.’ The analyst further took a dig at Klopp by questioning his intentions and said, “Clearly, Klopp has got a problem right now with Mo Salah”. But is it all Klopp’s fault?

Notably, the incident occurred just before the 79th minute as Salah was preparing to enter the pitch. Klopp approached to shake hands, but the winger reportedly appeared to ignore him. Minutes later, when receiving a rather vague handshake, the German manager came back to him and said something that visibly frustrated the 31-year-old, leading him to talk back to his manager. In fact, as the match ended, both the manager and player didn’t even shake hands at full-time, with the Merseyside boss greeting everyone.
As of now, neither Jurgen Klopp nor Mo Salah has commented on the incident. Further development will unfold the exact cause. Till then, we leave the matters in your hands to decide. Let us know in the comments.
