The video was quite bizarre as we saw the Brazilian soccer legend, Marta, walk her dog in a baby stroller while screaming at the top of her lungs about the unfairness of the awards. She said in Spanish, “I waited a whole year to see Vinicius deservedly recognized as the best player of today. What Ballon d’Or is this? No!”

Fans remain divided about this win, which sparked plenty of debate amongst the soccer fraternity. The Madridistas have described Vini Jr’s loss as the ‘biggest robbery in history’. Former Teammates Toni Kroos and Eduardo Camavinga also showed support for the 24-year-old and were unhappy at the snub.

Real Madrid did claim the Men’s Club of the Year and Coach of the Year prizes, but they had no representatives at the ceremony to pick up the prizes.

Marta was upset because she knew all about being crowned the best player in the world. FIFA declared her the best female player in the world on six occasions. So, she knows when someone deserves it. On top of that, even Vini Jr. spoke on this matter stating this decision might have been related to discrimination.

He repeatedly emphasized he faced racial abuse on several occasions in Spain. On top of that, even Cristiano Ronaldo is trending because he disclosed something about the awards.

The Portuguese superstar has made some claims regarding these individual accolades. In a talk with RECORD last year, “Ballon d’Or and [FIFA] The Best are losing credibility,” indicating these awards are unfair from his perspective. This is because Ronaldo—a 5-time Ballon d’Or winner himself, has lost faith in the very same awards. The 39-year-old might have won 8 like Messi, but he knows the inside story quite well and believes the voting system remains incorrect.

For the uninitiated, the judges include a diverse international jury and a group of special journalists from the top 100 FIFA-ranked countries. The rules state: “Only one journalist per country may vote. They are allowed to select players who play in or are affiliated with their own country.”
