Portugal has qualified for the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup after an emphatic win over Switzerland. The 2016 Euro champions were in top form as they dismantled the Swiss side by scoring six goals. Switzerland did pull one back in the 2nd half. However, it was only a consolation goal in the end. Coach Fernando Santos benched Cristiano Ronaldo and started Goncalo Ramos in the R16 clash.
However, despite the win, Cristiano Ronaldo appeared to walk off the pitch after the full-time whistle while his teammates embraced the fans. Meanwhile, Ronaldo’s girlfriend took a cheeky dig at the manager as fans missed out on the opportunity to watch Ronaldo for 90 mins.

Despite the rumors that Santos benched Ronaldo due to his reaction to being substituted in the last game, it was a ‘strategic’ decision from the Portuguese manager.
“I said that it was closed and it was closed. Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the best players in the world playing professionally and as a captain … so we have to just think about this team collectively,” Santos said.
