The excitement surrounding the 2026 FIFA World Cup is reaching a fever pitch. While there are still 28 months remaining until the 23rd edition of the tournament, the host countries are already fastening their seatbelts. Canada, alongside its fellow hosts, the USA and Mexico, is set to host its inaugural World Cup match on their soil. Amidst the growing furor, Canadian pop star Drake has extended a warm welcome to fans around the world with ‘open arms.’

Almost two years remain until the next installment of the Golden Trophy arrives, yet the campaigning appears to have already commenced. For Canada, Drake seems to be doing the job. The 37-year-old sat down with FIFA president Gianni Infantino to discuss his hometown’s involvement in the upcoming World Cup. Speaking for Fox Sports, he said, “Canada as a whole, we have just such an incredible melting pot of people. But Toronto, especially, there are just so many different cultural experiences. So when the World Cup hits, it’s like everyone is on the street. It’s a beautiful time. Their passion is unmatched.”

As Infantino highlighted that Canada can expect millions of fans from around the world, Drake added, “Not to make this a Canadian promo, please feel free to visit Canada. We are the nicest people you will ever meet in your life. But of course, welcome with open arms.” The rapper further acknowledged that the streets of Toronto and Vancouver are expected to be filled with people hailing a ‘competitive spirit’ and who are passionate about the game. “We’ll be ready for you in Canada,” he concluded.

Drake suffered a million-dollar loss in the 2022 FIFA World Cup

In December 2022, Drake made headlines but not for the positive reasons that Lionel Messi did. In the end, Messi and his squad won the championship, but there was a catch.
