The Welsh club was looking to end their season with yet another victory against Torquay. However, last night, Phil Parkinson’s side played a 1-1 draw against the home side. However, that didn’t stop the owners from penning some inspirational words.
Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have a message
Reynolds’s side was looking to finish their season with a final win in the National League. They were on the verge of losing their final league campaign. But a late goal from star Elliot Lee put all the effort of Torquay’s goal scorer, Frank Nouble, in vain.
Following the match, Reynolds and McElhenney had some positive words for their beloved club. First, the Deadpool star wrote, “And it’s over. @TUFC1899 showed massive heart today. Still nursing an emotional hangover from an unforgettable 111 point year for @Wrexham_AFC. Next season starts now. LFG.”

The Canadian hailed their last night’s rivals but also showed optimism for the next season. McEhenney also had some inspiring words to say. He tweeted, “111 points. What a season. Shall we try it again next year? @Wrexham_AFC. We’re. Just. Getting. Started.”

It seems both owners are optimistic about the life that will follow in League and would be eager to maintain a 35-year-old record.
Wrexham aiming for a 35-year-old record
Aside from ending its journey in the fifth division, the club has also set a new benchmark record. They finished the season with 111 points. This is the highest any National League team has ever made. Previously the highest record was set by Crawley Town with 105 points back in 2010/11.

However, they are also looking to maintain another 35-year-old record. Since the 1986–97 season, no team has been relegated back into the National League right after winning promotion. From 2010 to 2021, out of 24 teams, only four were relegated.
Of the four teams, Macclesfield broke down due to financial issues. On the other hand, Barnet, York City, and Grimsby got relegated in different seasons. Keeping that record unblemished would be important for Reynolds’ side in the upcoming season.
