Just hours ago, Wrexham played their first game in the Carabao Cup after many-many years. The game ended up going right down to the wire in the penalty shootout. While the Welsh soccer club had more shots during the game, they failed to convert any of them. Club co-owner Ryan Reynolds posted his reaction to the mini nail-biter right after the penalty shootout joking that we’re ‘aliens in a movie’.
The absence of a lethal figure in attack was clearly visible. The club will hope to soon get back Paul Mullin after one of the fans called yesterday’s game ‘painful to watch’.

Neither of the teams could break their shackles for the entire 90 minutes. Despite effort after effort, the ball just wasn’t hitting the back of the net. The Welsh soccer club played quite decently. During the game, they dominated possession during some phases. Luckily, they turned out to be the better team from the spot.
They scored each of their four penalties and Wigan Athletic ended up missing two of theirs. Soon after the game, the clubs’ famous co-owner candidly told the fanbase how he felt about the game. “Another year of hearts jumping outta chests like we’re in a fucking Aliens movie”. Unbelievably, the goalless draw turned into a nail-biter during the last few minutes.

Wrexham managed to pull off a win but their performance on the pitch wasn’t their best, again. An inability to convert chances into actual goals is something that Reynolds’ side never lacked after Paul Mullin’s arrival. But he will not play for a few weeks after sustaining a punctured lung during a preseason game against Manchester United. Parkinson needs to help his players adapt soon enough to avoid dropping more points in the league.
Twitterati wasn’t the happiest despite the win yesterday. But why? Let’s dive deeper.

The fans were mainly disappointed and concerned over the 0-0 scoreline after an entire 90-minute game. After the game, a fan deemed it to be ‘painful to watch’. Several fans also reiterated and complained that the team simply cannot score without Mullin. They were lacking his ‘killer’ instinct. In the end, what matters is that the Red Dragons managed to win the game and advance to the next round.
Yesterday, they participated in this competition after fifteen long years. From the looks of it, the fans will have their eyes set on the EFL League Two table most of the time. Advancing in the cup competition would definitely be a bonus. They still well and truly believe in their Hollywood dream as long as Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are at the helm.
