USWNT is looking to take all the fixtures very seriously. While they have received a major boost by winning the opening fixture, there’s still a long road ahead. Tomorrow, they’ll be facing the Netherlands and according to Morgan the USWNT is in full preparation for the match. During the pre-match press conference, she revealed how they are bracing for the meet-up against the Dutch.

“This game is no different, but we have played Netherlands historically in very important matches. 2019, Olympics, even before, so, this is going to be an incredibly difficult matchup, very challenging. We watch the Netherlands the other night and they have a lot of the same players as we played them in the World Cup four years ago, a little bit different of a formation but still same personnel and that’s important for kind of team chemistry,” she said.

“So just knowing that we know that we have to be at our best and we’re doing everything we can at the training field, in the meetings, watching video, doing everything we can. But there’s going to be a very big matchup.” The San Diego Waves forward insists the meetup against the Dutch won’t be an easy one as it may lay some challenges for them.

However, the 33-year-old insists they are doing everything they can in order to prepare for the win. Indeed, the optimism sounds good from Morgan’s mouth. She, however, started the tournament on the wrong foot in the opening fixture after missing a penalty.

Missed a penalty in the opening game

The opening fixture of the USWNT was a huge success, but not for Morgan. In the previous match against Vietnam, Loan’s trip on Trinity Rodman forced the ref to check VAR and point to the spot. Alex Morgan was handed over the responsibility to double the USWNT’s lead. However, she missed the penalty.

Nevertheless, Vlatko Andonovski’s side still managed to clinch a victory with a huge margin, winning 3-0. A first-half brace from Sophia Smith and a 77th-minute strike from Lindsey Horan was enough to clinch three points. Certainly, Morgan’s goal would have made it four and also opened her account in this year’s World Cup. Perhaps we may see her name on the scoresheet against the Netherlands.
