It has come to light that Messi may be prone to injury from playing in every MLS club’s stadium. Well, allow us to explain. Recently, CNS Sports Golazo soccer presenter, Nico Cantor reacted to Inter Miami’s latest news concerning their player. The Herons announced their forward, Coco Jean, has torn his ACL.
While this may sound like a regular injury, On Twitter, Cantor suggested it occurred while playing on turf. “With Messi coming to MLS, I hope that inspires the league to get more serious and find a way to remove turf fields from the league. If we want to emulate top leagues, we can’t have turf.”
This was duly noted by one of the journalists, Felipe Cárdenas, who also dug his feet into the matter. He replied to Cantor with a tweet, saying, “I reached out to Atlanta United to see if the Mercedes Benz Stadium turf will be replaced w/grass due to Messi’s pending arrival. Per an ATLUTD spokesperson: ‘We’re confident in our turf.'”
Surprisingly, Cárdenas received a vague answer from Atlanta United officials that the turf was still better. While the latest Miami forward’s injury may not change the club’s minds, an injury analysis from the NFL definitely will.

Players have consistently expressed their preference for playing on grass, citing safety concerns and a better overall experience. In particular, injuries affecting the lower extremities, such as the knees, ankles, and feet, were more likely to occur on artificial turf fields than on grass in previous years. While the disparity between the two surfaces has gradually decreased since 2020, the injury rates were nearly identical by 2021.
