For the first time this season, Wrexham hit the road as they faced AFC Wimbledon. The game turned out to be quite a thrilling contest in the end. Both sides shared a point as the game ended with a 1-1 scoreline. Undoubtedly, this was a much better result as compared to the opening-day goal fest against MK Dons. While being critical of their manager, a huge chunk of the fanbase was happy earning the point.
Could the result have panned out differently in the presence of Paul Mullin? Maybe. Rest assured, Wrexham was quite solid for most of the game until the final part of the second half. Ben Foster’s heroics kept the game alive with the fans biting their nails till the very end.

The Welsh soccer club started the game quite positively. Thanks to a goal by Elliot Lee, Reynolds’ side took the lead in the 22nd minute. Both sides parted ways at the break with Wrexham leading by a single goal. New signing James McClean stepped onto the field as the second half commenced. Interestingly, momentum swung AFC Wimbledon’s way after Wrexham conceded a penalty.
The home side had a great opportunity to equalize the scoresheet as Ali Al-Hamadi stepped up to the penalty spot. But the vastly experienced Ben Foster had other plans! He made a match-defining save and followed it up with another block a few minutes later. Deja vu, isn’t it? With just ten minutes left on the clock, the game wasn’t done yet.

Wrexham conceded another penalty and Foster couldn’t bail them out this time. James Tilley slotted the ball into the back of the net and the scores were level. Reynolds’ side did attempt to edge a winner but it simply wasn’t meant to be. Here’s how the fans reacted to the nail-biting contest.
Quite a step up for Wrexham indeed but they’re hanging on strongly, aren’t they?

A few fans were critical of Phil Parkinson as well after the 1-1 draw demanding that early substitutions could have been made.
Parky was too late with the subs… either way, take the point and on to Walsall on Tuesday 👌

Once again, Paul Mullin’s absence was palpable and the fans were quick to point that out.

Undoubtedly, this wasn’t the best outcome of the game. But the fanbase appreciated their club opening their account on the points table.
First point on the board. And first away game. Definitely positive

All in all, it was a close game for sure. Improved performances from everyone apart from the late slip-up by the Wrexham defense. In the end, Ben Foster’s heroics made sure that the Welsh soccer club returned to their base with a point at least. Compared to the opening day against MK Dons, Parkinson’s side proved to be defensively tighter but still lacked the finishing touch up front.
Wrexham positively building after its opening-day defeat
In the absence of Paul Mullin, Wrexham is undoubtedly getting better game by game. Their League Two campaign did not start well after a loss to MK Dons. The fans were upset and called out the Hollywood owners deeming that result as a reality check. In the next game, the team improved against Wigan Athletic in the Carabao Cup. Although it was a goalless draw, Reynolds’s side pulled it off in the penalty shootout.

The Welsh soccer club has bounced back from its disappointing start. While Mullin’s return will still take some time, the transfer window is still open in case the Deadpool star feels the need to make a purchase after buying James McClean. In the meantime, Parkinson and his team have tightened up defensively with a few tactical tweaks. They drew their next league game against AFC Wimbledon with a much-improved performance.
The clubs’ Hollywood dream is still far from achieving but in full swing as Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney lead the way.
