“Welcome to Angel City” – Serena Williams’ Husband Alexis Ohanian Welcomes Julie Ertz to the LA-Based NWSL Team After Fending Off Interest From Alex Morgan’s San Diego Wave

This year’s NWSL hasn’t upset the fans even the slightest bit. In fact, it is becoming quite famous globally. All 12 teams are looking to clinch the silverware, and it’s definitely going to be very exciting. So far, only three match days have taken place, and they have already given us some exciting results. Aside from emphatic results, the league recently brought us exciting news. Yesterday, Serena Williams’ side Angel City announced the signing of USWNT midfielder Julie Ertz.

The news has brought a massive smile to the faces of netizens and soccer fans around the globe. The player has even received a heartwarming welcome message from the club’s co-owner, Alexis Ohanian.

Yesterday was quite a day for Angel City fans as Julie Ertz signed for the LA side. She has made a return to NWSL after a more than two-year break due to the birth of her son. Ertz initially signed a one-year contract with Williams’ side. Hence, in a bid to share the emphatic news among his fans, Ohanian made sure she felt very welcome.

The internet entrepreneur shared a photo of Ertz holding an Angel shirt on Instagram and wrote, “Welcome to Angel City.” This must have made Ertz happy, as it was quite a heartfelt message from Williams’ husband. Ertz also had a few words to quote after signing for her new side.

“I am so thrilled to be joining one of the most exciting clubs in the world in Angel City FC,” said Ertz. “From the moment they traded for my rights up until now, they have been unwavering in their support of my journey. I cannot wait to get to work with the team and finally experience the amazing game day atmosphere.”

Head coach Freya Coombe also shared some warm words for the USWNT star. “Julie is a world-class player who has proven herself time and again at both club and national team levels,” said the ACFC coach. “In addition to her quality on the ball, she will help us defend higher up the field and against opponent transition,” she added.

Either way, all the parties are happy with the result, and Ertz must be looking to clinch major success with her side. But initially, it was another NWSL team that wanted her before Angel City.

Another NWSL team was interested in Ertz

According to several reports, Alex Morgan’s San Diego Waves were actually in talks to sign Ertz first. The Waves were interested in her services and had already begun negotiations. However, it was Angel City who managed to get her signature on the contract, thus leaving the Waves empty-handed.

The reports also stated that Ertz herself chose ACFC because the club was more likely to be able to offer her minutes on the pitch, which she actually wanted in the first place. Either way, it is indeed an interesting signing for the LA-based club. Moreover, she’ll be looking to make an instant impact on her new side.
