Brazil has important games against Argentina and Colombia coming up. The absence of Neymar was always going to play a major role in these games. It looks like interim manager Fernando Diniz will now have to deal with another injury issue in the team. From a general fan’s perspective, this could make the qualifiers interesting.
Ederson will miss both the games this month. Reports indicate he has suffered an injury on his left foot. He suffered this injury during Manchester City’s 4-4 draw against Chelsea. Athletico Paranaense goalkeeper Bento will now replace him in the squad. The injury to Ederson is a big setback, as Fernando started him over Liverpool’s Allison. But, this gives a big opportunity to Allison and his national team prospects.

The injury of Ederson is not as serious as the Neymar one. But it does keep him out for both the qualifying games this month. He will now continue his recovery in the UK with his club, Manchester City. In the case of Neymar, he is also gradually making his recovery after the surgery on his ACL. The Brazilian still has hopes of playing the Copa America next year.

The Al Hilal star suffered a heartbreaking injury in Brazil’s 2-0 loss against Uruguay in the qualifiers. He needed to have surgery done on his ACL with the Brazil national team doctor. This injury is likely to keep him out for 9 months. Despite this, Neymar has not ruled himself out of the Copa America in the next year. Brazil wants to win the tournament after losing the final in the 2021 edition against Argentina.
Fernando Diniz had started him in the majority of games under him despite criticism. The Al Hilal star also brings a wealth of experience of playing in the major tournaments in his playing career. Copa America is going to start on 14th July 2024. So, this 8-9 months break gives him ample chance to recover for the tournament. This is also because his recovery is going well on schedule.
