FC Barcelona has had tough times in recent years. But the situation is improving rapidly, as they lifted their first league title under Xavi. With the club’s motto being ‘More than a club,’ the fans joined hands to support the team from start to finish. Comparing that to Wrexham, the motto suits their current state.
Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney transformed the soccer club to soar them to greater heights. Hence, one of their players, Ollie Palmer, explained the ‘More than a club’ phenomenon perfectly!
Similarly to Paul Mullin, Palmer was in the mix for goals scored. He scored 16 goals in the season and helped the club to achieve a promotion. But in the interview, he revealed how Rob wanted to do more for his players. Apart from the $12.5 million investment they put in the club, Rob’s new gesture created ripples amongst the players.

Wrexham player explains Rob McElhenney’s noble nature
During the season, Palmer revealed how Rob wanted a meeting with all his players. Curious to understand what the owner had in mind, the players stepped outside to recognize the information. What followed next stunned them. At a time when club owners and players create a gap between them, the Wrexham owners do an all-hands approach in their club. Palmer loved the dedication and commitment showcased by the loyal owners.
Palmer mentioned, “He said, ‘Lads if any of you want to do anything on the side and start a business, you know, if there’s a side hustle you want to do, whether it will be a clothing brand whether it be a podcast, whether you want to start a car leasing company, whether your music to something on the side lap. We will help you. And he didn’t need to do that. Like, that was amazing from Rob because he didn’t need to do that.”
It is unheard of for owners to help their players to set up business establishments. But this little gesture made Palmer delighted. He continued, “That was that little bit extra where you know. He took everyone outside and said look, ‘We know this is not going to be here forever, but we want to give you something forever. So it’s amazing. It’s amazing what they are doing.”

Making the proper type of intangible investment for the club
It is refreshing to see the owners respected by their fans. Most times, there are various issues related to the club ownership and the fans. Take Manchester United, for example. Despite being one of the top clubs in Europe, there is a distance between the owners and the fans. Connecting with the players can help the owners to understand their strengths and weaknesses.
Thus, the Wrexham owners want outstanding success for their clubs. Despite the turnover of sports owners, Ryan and Rob’s commitment to the project remains steadfast.
