The Football League promotion dream for Wrexham is complete. The Welsh club will finally play in EFL League Two. Along with them, their arch-rivals Notts County also made their way into the fourth division. While both strong teams have crossed the line, things are different in the National League. In fact, one of the teams in the fifth division has already made a huge admission about next year’s promotion.
Both Wrexham and Notts gave each other tough competition as the two sides were determined to cross the line. While the Red Dragons got the easy promotion, the Magpies had to choose the hard way, i.e., playoff promotion. While the Ryan Reynolds side managed to end their 15-year exile, one of their former rivals is also looking to end their own five-year exile.

While both newly promoted sides left the lanes of the fifth division, one of their rivals is already making plans for the new National League campaign. The protagonist here is Chesterfield, who is poised to win the 2023-24 Vanarama League. The Spireites are favorites to win the promotion, who have been in the league for the past five years.
This claim came firmly from the mouth of their manager Paul Cook. “We are going to be the team in the league next year that everyone wants to beat,” he told 1866 Sport and as stated by Derbyshire Times. Apparently, Cook has also selected some tough pre-season friendlies in order to test the waters and prepare his side.

He added, “Wrexham have gone, and Notts County, they carried the same mantle as us. Next year, possibly Oldham a little bit, the EFL clubs that have come down, but we will be the one, we are going to be the big scalp in the league next year and we have got to make sure we turn up as much as we can and as regularly as we can and as consistently as we can.”
The manager continued, “I felt the town was a really good place to be at the end of last season, and let’s carry that on into this year.” Indeed, the optimism looks good for Chesterfield, who finished third behind Notts. Likewise, Wrexham and Notts are also focused on the new season.

It was a long road, but both Wrexham and Notts County managed to cross the line. Both gave each other a hard time in the league yet eventually passed the test. Now both are once again sitting at the starting line and racing for the League Two title. While the Magpies may have missed out on the title, they will be looking to give firm competition to not only the Red Dragons but the other fourth-division sides as well.
Meanwhile, as for Ryan Reynolds’ side, ambitions are the same as they look to retrace the footsteps of prior success. After all, the Hollywood owners have pledged to take the Welsh side to the Premier League. Both stakes and expectations are high, but one thing is certain, it’s definitely going to be an enthralling fourth division.
