The day when Cristiano Ronaldo returned to Manchester United, the entire soccer fraternity accepted him back with open arms. In the first season, he scored a bucketload of goals to make them a competitive team. However, Erik Ten Hag arrived and changed the squad’s player roles. Since then, the relationship between the club and the player deteriorated, which resulted in him giving a controversial interview with British broadcaster Piers Morgan. Ronaldo complained about the standards set by the club and brought it to the forefront among other issues. The club terminated his contract after that.
Now, Ten Hag seems to align with those issues put forward by the Portuguese and wants more from his club. The club is on the rise after winning the Carabao Cup and will meet league champions Manchester City in the FA Cup final. Thus, Ten Hag wants improvement.

According to the Times, Ten Hag stated, “We were aware of it. I informed myself. After Sir Alex left, the culture changed over the years. One of the biggest qualities Sir Alex had was to have high standards. I wanted to bring it back in so that everyone in this organization lives the highest standards and the football players too.” The standards set by Sir Alex Ferguson remain a bane and a boon for the club.
Ferguson demanded success from the club and used his man-management skills to get the best out of the players. He dominated the Premier League similarly to Pep Guardiola, and those standards were hard to replicate. For several years after his departure, United managers struggled to keep up with those standards. The club’s training grounds and stadium require renovation, and Ten Hag stressed this point.
Without significant investment, the club risks going backward, which will ultimately be a problem. Ronaldo revealed the same, and his exposure to the matter resulted in him being pushed out of the club. Nevertheless, are expectations and standards meeting the requirement?
