The USWNT had a rather shocking World Cup campaign this year as the side was knocked out in the Round of 16. The team’s journey has been documented in a Netflix Original series titled “Under Pressure.” In one of the episodes, skipper Lindsey Horan talked about the team’s exit from the World Cup and how the team needs to make improvements to stand toe-to-toe with the best nations in the world.
With changing times, the USWNT has already taken the first big step to move past the shadow of its golden generation. The team recently made a big change to the coaching staff, creating history by appointing Emma Hayes as their head coach.

USWNT skipper Lindsey Horan was very honest with her remarks. During the show, Horan praised the skill displayed by teams such as England and Spain throughout the tournament. She then also stated that the USWNT needed to make improvements to stand next to the top teams in the world.
Horan, while talking during the docuseries, stated, “The international game is such a nice style of football, where everyone wants the ball. You are playing these tiny passes here and there. They are so confident on the ball, they are so technical. We need to progress in this possession style of play. We need better coaches, we need better youth development. We need more investment there.”
It seems like the US Federation is on board with the captain’s assessment. The federation made a big money move this year following the World Cup defeat as they roped in Chelsea Women’s boss Emma Hayes as their new head coach following the end of the season, and it seems that she is excited to coach “the most incredible team in world football history.”
