Over the years, Cristiano Ronaldo’s successful career has come under scrutiny. The Portuguese captain has proven his longevity by performing at the later stages of his career but was considered to be self-centered. Few experts feel Ronaldo is also stubborn about accepting the team’s needs and focuses on his goal-scoring records. However, Ronaldo’s assistant coach has now come out to back the star from the claims, calling him self-centered.

He stated how Cristiano Ronaldo’s hunger can get the better of him but remains a generous person, according to Vitor Severino, Al Nassr’s first assistant manager. According to reports, Severino said, “Sometimes we judge Ronaldo based on outside opinions because people only know his personality. But if you get close to him, you will realize that he is not only a great player but also a great human being,” revealing that you one must know him personally to understand how exemplary he is.

The 5-time Ballon d’Or winner was criticized by a few experts, including his first club Sporting CP’s former manager Manuel Jose. Last year, Jose said, “Now he has an ego the size of the world and he only thinks about himself and no one else,” citing that Ronaldo only thought about himself and was a hindrance to the national team as he was in his later stages. Additionally, even a few others, including Wayne Rooney, labeled CR7 ‘selfish’ and focused more on goals than enjoying the sport.

However, Severino has clearly stated that it’s Cristiano’s winning attitude that gives such a notion. But in reality, “When you give a coaching suggestion, he does it and he does it very well because he is a top player,” stated the assistant coach, citing his humility. He further said, “His hard work, respect for others, and thirst for victory is what made him such a great person,” opening up about his mutual respect for people.

Despite all the talk outside, Cristiano Ronaldo keeps adding value to his team. He recently proved his generosity by keeping his teammate ahead of him by giving him a penalty. Ronaldo has already scored four hat tricks this season, but he could have had five if he did not hand over one to Sadio Mane against Al Khaleej in the King’s Cup semifinals.

On the other hand, apart from his exploits in the match, Ronaldo is also known for his hard work in training. The player comes first to the training pitch before anyone else and stays back for more time after the session ends. Additionally, the Al Nassr captain is also known as one of the most charitable persons in the world off the field, providing relief to the people affected during calamities. With all such qualities, comments from Vitor Severino can prove to be rejuvenating during these times of scrutiny.
