MLS saw arguably the greatest transfer in its history recently. Who would have thought one of the soccer GOATs could join MLS? But David Beckham’s Inter Miami pulled the impossible. They landed Lionel Messi on a free transfer after he left PSG.

And the transfer has already started to show effects. Inter Miami gained over five million Instagram followers in just over 24 hours of the announcement. With this, Inter Miami has surpassed all MLS, NFL, and MLB teams in the follower count on Instagram. Meanwhile, amid this saga, Sergio Aguero teased Lionel Messi over Inter Miami’s position on the table, and Messi has responded.

Messi and Aguero, the former Argentina teammates, are known for their close friendship. They boast great relationships off the field. Aguero talked to ESPN about the move and shared a fascinating chat with the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner after he announced Inter Miami decision.

“I spoke to Messi yesterday. I sent him a message with a screenshot of the Eastern conference standings and I said: ‘Your team is behind! You have to move up to 8th/9th!’ Messi cracked up. He said, ‘We have to make the playoffs!’” Aguero told. It seems that Messi is ready for the challenge and wants to help his struggling team. It will be an uphill task for Miami, though.

Aguero also asked Messi for the Inter Miami game tickets. However, Messi replied that every Miami game is sold out. It left the former Manchester City superstar stunned. The transfer has excited the fans, and despite soaring ticket prices, they have bought all the tickets. Meanwhile, the transfer gives a chance to Messi to reunite with Aguero, who already lives in Miami.

Whether the transfer changes the fortunes of Inter Miami in MLS remains to be seen.
