The Premier League giants are also touring the US for their preseason and might end up playing against the current National League club. However, fans are excited about the prospect of the game.

Fans show their excitement on reported blockbuster friendlies

Reports emerged in The Telegraph on Friday that Wrexham AFC, owned by the Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, has proposed two friendlies against Chelsea and Manchester United. They will play the friendlies in North Carolina and San Diego in July this year, the same report says. The speculation of the friendlies has excited soccer fans.

One fan wrote, “We gonna get dead pool scrapping Fred the red.” One thinks this will be an interesting game, while others opined it’s a must-go game. Fans are looking forward to the games and are impressed by the way Wrexham is building a powerful brand. 

A report from The Telegraph further states that Wrexham will play Chelsea at the Kenan Memorial Stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, on July 19. They also have invited Manchester United to play a week later. The game, if United accepts, will take place at Snapdragon Stadium, San Diego. It will be the first tour of the United after 2018 to the US.

The speculated friendlies show the ambition of the owners for the club. It will be interesting to see if the Premier League clubs accept the invitation. The games will be immense for the Welsh non-league club, which is eyeing a promotion to the Football League after many years of absence.

Wrexham is playing non-league soccer for the last 15 years and is eyeing a promotion this season. They missed out narrowly the previous season after losing to Grimsby Town in a playoff. Wrexham currently sits second in the Vanarama National League table, five points behind the league leaders.

Meanwhile, they have two games in hand over the league leaders. The winner of the league automatically gets promoted to Football League Two. On the other hand, the playoffs decide the second spot, and Wrexham is eyeing to finish top and get a direct promotion.
