The prime example of how the community loves Wrexham AFC takes us back to 2011. This year, there were significant doubts about whether the club will exist and keep playing in the fifth tier. But the fans rose to the occasion, and it just took several hours for them to raise thousands of dollars to keep the club functioning.

When Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney decided to purchase the club, they were aware of how the community and the team faced difficult times. All that the community needed was passionate owners who cared about the club. The Hollywood duo realized the world should know the story of it and the fans. They decided to go for docuseries, and the idea of Welcome To Wrexham emerged.

The Deadpool star said, speaking to Variety, “It was so weird. I think it’s easy to sit here and look at it like it’s a TED Talk, where we can say, ‘This is how we did it, and this is why we’re so great to have thought of this thing.’ But the truth is we didn’t know a f*cking thing when we went in there.”

“We knew our hearts were in the right place. We knew we had an agenda that centered on them, not us. But other than that, we didn’t have a clue. Then you start to see what’s working, and water those plants a little more and watch them grow,” he added.

However, the community started getting involved with the owners and the docuseries. The fans started showing their confidence in the owners. Speaking on it, Reynolds added, “Suddenly people are embracing the cameras all around, and — not to be too esoteric about it — realizing that these cameras are communicating the story of Wrexham to the rest of the planet.”
