The controversial Super League is back in the news. With A22 emerging victorious over UEFA in their legal battle, Barcelona and Real Madrid are ecstatic at the prospect of the Super League. However, it seems like not everyone mirrors their emotions. Multiple clubs have washed their hands with the league. PSG boss Nasser Al-Khelaifi, in a recent press conference, questioned A22’s qualifications while stating that ECA’s door is always open for the Spanish giants.

PSG is not the only side that has openly criticized the Super League. Top teams across Europe have questioned the League’s existence while reaffirming their stance alongside UEFA to boycott the breakaway league.

Naseer Al-Khelaifi was very blunt with his words during his recent press conference. The PSG boss, during the media event, was asked about his thoughts on the existence of the Super League. Al-Khelaifi, in response, questioned the league’s authenticity while taking jabs at A22.

The PSG boss stated, “Who are A22? Where have they come from? What is their history? What is their profile? We want to talk to serious people.”

Later, during the press conference, when Al-Khelaifi was asked about a club returning to the ECA, the PSG boss stated, “There are two or three clubs, not with us today. We didn’t banish them. We have not threatened them. If they want to join us, they are welcome. ECA have never limited ambition. That is the truth. We want to represent all the clubs. We all have the same interests.”

Al-Khelaifi’s words are likely directed towards Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Juventus, with the three clubs serving as the staunch supporters of the Super League. However, the league might have taken an enormous blow despite their legal win, as clubs across Europe seem to be less than interested in joining the breakaway league.

European elites not interested in the Super League

While A22 might have expected soccer clubs around the world to be interested in the prospect of the Super League, it seems even their win over UEFA in the European Court of Justice has not helped teams budge from their stance. Top clubs across Europe have washed their hands with the breakaway league.
