Wrexham AFC has become the definition of success. Thanks to the immaculate efforts of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, the team has seen a massive turnaround in their fortunes. They have become a household name in the soccer world as their fan following continues to grow.

The club also came into the limelight after they released their docuseries ‘Welcome to Wrexham.’ The documentary grabbed significant eyeballs and became a hit on the screens. Talking about soccer films, Ted Lasso is yet another hit among netizens. The movie also covers the journey of a soccer team but in a hilarious fashion.

While the genre is completely different, the storyline sounds a bit similar. In fact, their journey is also a bit different. And that’s what has been pointed out by Wrexham’s executive director, Humphrey Ker.

Humphrey Ker brushes away Ted Lasso comparisons

The first season of Welcome to Wrexham depicts heartbreak at the end of the final episode. The club lost 5-4 in the play-offs to Grimsby Town. On the other hand, Ted Lasso somehow managed to clinch promotion in the first season itself. While the same ending was expected in the Red Dragon’s docuseries, Humphrey Ker believes the ending was quite better that way.

While speaking about the promotion story to the Athletic, Ker said, “But, in a way, the documentary was probably 10 times better for the audience because we lost in season one. I got loads of texts from friends of mine, saying how the show blew their minds only to then be shocked at the end because we lost. They hadn’t expected that.”

The executive director reckons that it was fairly impossible for them to get a fairytale ending like Ted Lasso. He states that Wrexham is a proper soccer club, while Ted Lasso is more of a fiction-based program. “But we are not Ted Lasso. This is real life. You can’t choose your ending,” he added.

This is indeed some sensible talk from Ker. While one is a fictional story, the other exists in real life. Either way, both films are brilliant in their own ways. However, the second season of the Wrexham docuseries will definitely get a fairytale ending as fans can’t wait for it to get released.
