Wrexham are facing stiff competition in League Two. Ryan Reynolds’ side has not been impressive in their opening fixtures. Impediments seem to befall Wrexham, one after another. After Paul Mullins getting injured during pre-season and the sudden retirement of Ben Foster, manager Phil Parkinson is having to counter one problem after another.

The Reds haven’t been very active in the transfer window and have completed only two signings. But there might be good news for Wrexham supporters, as the Welsh club is now reportedly in talks to sign Wycombe Wanderer’s striker.

Wrexham needs firepower and seems to have identified its target. Brandon Hanlan has been rumored to be in talks with League Two side Wrexham. The English international was signed by Wycombe in 2021. Although he has only scored 9 goals in 75 games he’s the main target for Phil Parkinson in this window.

In a statement to the Leader after their match with Barrow, the manager talked about Wrexham’s recent form stating, “We have got some really good players to come back into the frame and when they do, we are going to be a real force.”

Hanlan’s recruitment can be a good strike as he has been immensely helpful for the sides that have encountered sudden setbacks. During a recent match against MK Dons, Matt Bloomfield praised Hanlan as he scored a late goal in a match which Wycombe ended up winning 2-0. Bloomfield stated that he had to abandon all good plans after some players were knocked out and Brandon just came out to be fantastic. Seems like a similar case is at play in Wrexham.

Phil Parkinson is confident that his side will turn the tide. In his post-match statement against Barrow, he talked in detail about what he felt was the issue and how he planned to sort them. Let’s see what the gaffer had to say.

Mixed feelings from the manager

It’s an unlikely situation at STOK Cae Ras. Things looked bright ahead of the season but as the matches went on the situation started to change. Injuries and in-form players having bad days. This is the case with English football, it’s completely unpredictable. When asked about his thoughts after the Barrow game, the gaffer said, “We are not at full strength, we are not where we want to be in terms of personnel and we have been punished at home.”

The manager admitted to having defensive issues. He accepted the fact that conceding 5 against Swindon Town in the 8 attempts they made is quite rare to happen. There’s a need for requirement and it needs to be done fast. The areas of improvement have been identified but they can’t be solved until proper players are signed.

It’s going to be a tiring and exhausting week for Phil Parkinson and his team but they do have positives to take. A good performance from Mark Howard and a stable backline of three did well against the Barrow side. Parkinson needs to take both of the aspects and get the requirements he needs before the transfer window shuts. Who do you think Wrexham should sign? Let us know in the comments.
