Last night saw Arsenal take on MLS All-Stars in their pre-season fixture. The Premier League giants sparkled with a resounding win with their first squad including the new signings Declan Rice, Jurien Timber, and Kai Havertz also getting play time. As expected, the Gunners continued their dazzling form from last season and thrashed the All Stars five goals to nil.
The MLS team was coached by DC United’s gaffer and soccer legend Wayne Rooney, but he couldn’t care less about the outcome. And why would he, it was a friendly after all!

Wayne Rooney claims he got no constructive takeaways from MLS All-Star loss against Arsenal
It’s only natural to feel upset after receiving a 5-0 thrashing against any team. But when this happens in a pre-season friendly, it’s mainly a learning curve because these matches don’t mean anything on a larger scale. However, when it comes to coaching an MLS All-Star match, chances of the same learning curve are also low because you barely get to coach your players.
Acknowledging this, Rooney expressed gratitude for being part of the event. “It’s great to be a part of, great to be involved in, all the events around it are great to be a part of, but obviously you want a different result,” said the former Manchester United star. When quipped further about the constructive takeaways he had from the match, Rooney accepted that he learned “Absolutely nothing” with the utmost sarcasm.

Furthermore, in the post-match conference, the England legend didn’t hold back from praising Mikel Arteta and Arsenal.

Wayne Rooney praises Mikel Arteta and his recruitment
Rooney first praised the Gunners for the signings they have made this summer. He believes players like Declan Rice, Jurien Timber, and Kai Havertz come with experience and physicality which will absolutely improve Arsenal’s prospects this season.
“I really like the players Arsenal have signed. They’ve signed players with experience which is important. Players with size as well.” said Rooney in his post-match presser. He then predicted – “I think they’ll do better than last season.” He also praised his counterpart and said that they “have a really good coach in Mikel Arteta.”

Wayne Rooney’s comments about Arsenal’s latest recruits are absolutely on point. All three high-profile signings by the Gunners fill the squad’s weaknesses and also improve the overall quality. In fact, the latest signing Kai Havertz was already on the scoresheet last night with a skilfully executed finish. Declan Rice and Jurien Timber also had solid games as the duo recorded great composure and confidence when building from the back. They also did this with great defensive stability. Indeed, this was a positive night for the Gunners.
