It’s tough to imagine Gennaro Gattuso running about trying to learn the tricks of the trade. Be that as it may, it seems like the Italian had to resort to just that during his early days as a manager. The AC Milan icon in an interview revealed an interesting story from his time as a beginner coach. Gattuso, while trying to understand how Pep Guardiola functions as a tactician, tried meeting the manager during his time at Bayern Munich but almost ‘froze to death’, waiting for the Spaniard.

Gattuso has had a slow start to his career as a manager. The Italian has been in charge of some big clubs in the past few seasons but has failed to win major titles, excluding his 2019 Coppa Italia win with Napoli. He is currently at the helm of French side Marseille signing a three-year deal with the side last September.

The forty-five years old is starting to leave an imprint as a manager, with fans getting used to his style of play. Very few managers have established a distinct playstyle, and it seems like Gennaro Gattuso wants to follow the path paved by his seniors. In an interview, the Marseille manager opened up on his inspirations.

While taking to L’Equipe, Gattuso, claimed, “I waited almost three days at the gates of Bayern’s training center, waiting to see Guardiola’s car arrive. I hadn’t asked anyone for anything, because I don’t like to ask for favors. He recognized me when he finally passed by us, but that was when we had been there for two days. I was freezing to death with Gigi (Riccio, his substitute)!”
