Wrexham is currently on cloud nine. The Welsh club has tremendously flourished in the past few months and is making a name for itself. The team’s fortunes have significantly changed since Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over the club as owners.

Be it on or off the pitch, the club is winning on either side. They are in contention to win the title and have created unmatched hype. Moreover, in order to bolster their chances of winning the silverware, the owners are making potential investments in the squad.

After recently acquiring Billy Waters from Barrow, the club announced another shocking signing. The Red Dragons made former Premier League goalkeeper Ben Foster come out of retirement to join them until the end of the season.

Ben Foster opens up on Wrexham move

It was just a few months ago that Reynolds made a bid for the former Watford man, but the player hung up his boots. However, the player has decided to return to the pitch and help Wrexham achieve glory.

It was a spur of a moment as he made the decision very quickly, even after he heard what pay the 39-year-old will get. “I don’t need much [money] – to be honest, the negotiations took about five minutes… Wages wise, it’s literally peanuts… the part for me is getting the team over the line and getting them promoted,” said Foster on the Wrexham AFC podcast.

The player admitted that his pay is low, but he is eager to help his team win the championship. This might sound weird after Reynolds recently acquired a monstrous paycheck after selling his mobile company for over a billion dollars. Nevertheless, Foster has signed with the Dragons until the end of the season. He first arrived at Wrexham on loan from Stoke City.

During his time at Racecourse, he made 21 appearances in all competitions to later earn his move to Old Trafford. The player started in the LDV Vans Trophy Final at the Millennium Stadium to clinch success.

Wrexham continues to bolster the squad

While Foster and Waters are the major additions, Wrexham also added another highly-rated talent to their ranks. The club signed attacking midfielder Malik Dijksteel, who will be with the reserve squads until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old has a decent CV, as he played at Feyenoord’s youth set-up. The starlet also made several appearances in Premier League 2 during his time with Teesside. “I’m delighted to have the opportunity to play a Club of this stature. I want to push on in training, help the squad, and convince the staff of what I’m about,” said Dijksteel.
