Moments after Lionel Messi & Co. secured US Open Cup final qualification; Houston Dynamos squared off against Real Salt Lake in what turned out to be an even bigger entertainer. The match had everything from goals, missed chances, WWE-esque physical altercations, and a James Harden-sized star presence.

It was a night so epic that the result of the match wasn’t the key highlight. For starters; one of the biggest highlights of the match was the alarming physical altercation started by RSL defender Brayan Vera. Keeping the same anger in the stands was the Philadelphia 76ers’ star player, James Harden, who is in the news for a bitter standoff with his team.

Houston Dynamo versus Real Salt Lake semi-final clash was important for one major reason – a direct berth to the CONCACAF Championship. Since Inter Miami had already won the League’s Cup and qualified to the finals of the US Open Cup; the qualification to the prestigious championship fell directly to the team that made the finals. Thanks to such an easy qualification route, the loser of the semifinal would have really been bummed out. Unfortunately, RSL were on the losing side and their frustration at the end of the match was really palpable.

Truth be said, Real Salt Lake wasn’t in the match since the beginning. If not for the out-of-the-blue header from Anderson Julio in the 64th minute; this match was done and dusted in normal time. Fortunately for them, their opponents couldn’t finish their chances to save their lives. However, the Dynamos came with an extra sense of urgency in the extra time as they scored the winner in the 105th minute.

As the match reached its dying stage, RSL players grew frustrated, and it sadly resulted in them making rough challenges. Defender Brayan Vera was the primary culprit. After receiving his 2nd yellow card; the player grabbed his rival by the neck before his teammates came in between to separate him. VAR later deemed it as a straight red card.

Meanwhile, in the stands; James Harden was witnessing this all with a grin on his face. The NBA is currently involved in a bitter dispute with Philadelphia management that has shocked the NBA world.

James Harden sent shockwaves earlier this week after he verbally attacked 76ers president Daryl Morey. As per Harden; Morey broke his promise of helping the point guard secure a move to the LA Clippers. “Daryl Morey is a liar and I will never be a part of an organization that he’s a part of,” he said.

Following his shocking comments; the league fined the 76ers guard a whopping $100,000 this week. Despite the fine, the 10-time NBA All-Star maintained that he wouldn’t play for Philadelphia as long as “liar” Morey is part of the team. “Let me say that again: Daryl Morey is a liar and I will never be a part of an organization that he’s a part of.”
