Champs-Elysees is a well-known avenue in Paris where fans come together for the celebration. The fans again filled the avenue as Morocco edged Portugal in the quarter-finals. It was the first time Morocco made it to the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup. Morocco also became the first African nation to qualify for the semi-finals in World Cup history.

As the number of fans started increasing, the celebrations soon become chaotic. Also, the result of France’s game made more fans join the celebrations at the avenue, and everything went out of order.

Celebrations of Morocco fans turned into chaos

Morocco took on the Portuguese in the third quarter-final of the World Cup for a place in their first-ever semi-final in history. They edged Portugal with a solitary goal scored in the first half by Youssef En-Nesyri. Portugal pushed for the equalizer, but Morocco stood still in their defense and won.

Although, it was not a shocking result for many as they beat mighty Spain in the round of 16. The victory against Portugal sent all Morocco soccer fans into celebration mode everywhere in the world. The fans in France took to the streets of Paris and started the celebrations at the legendary avenue Champs-Elysees.

Soon the celebrations led to chaos, and Morocco fans started throwing projectiles and other objects toward the police. The fans also damaged the shops on the avenue while attacking the police on the site. They also fired mortars on police vehicles, and as a result, police, in retaliation, fired tear gas at the fans.

The chaos increased when the French fans joined the avenue after their win over England. There were sounds of fires too, on the avenue. Police did their best to control the situation. They also reported violent fan reactions from other parts of France. It will be interesting to see how the Morocco fans react when they face France in the semifinals.

Morocco to play their first ever FIFA World Cup semi-final

Morocco had a dream campaign so far in the Qatar FIFA World Cup. They started their group stage by holding the last World Cup semi-finalists, Croatia. In the second group game, they beat favorites Belgium to close on the knockout stage spot. They sealed their round of 16 places at the expense of Belgium when they beat Canada in the last group game.

Morocco managed to hold on to Spain in the round of 16 game to a goalless draw after extra time. They beat the Spanish side on penalties by 3-0 as their goalkeeper made crucial saves. In the quarter-finals, the Atlas Lions beat another European heavyweight, Portugal, by a solitary goal.
