Cristiano Ronaldo is back! No, we are not talking about his goalscoring prowess, even though he did score his first goal of the season in the recent Saudi Super Cup semifinal win vs Al Taawoun FC. The Portuguese superstar can’t seem to end any match without any major fuss. This comes from behind-the-scene footage showcasing the skipper having an argument with a referee over a controversial red card given to his teammate Marcelo Brozovic.

Though the sending-off didn’t harm Al Nassr in any way, given that it came in the stoppage time, the star midfielder will now be forced to sit out for the final vs Al Hilal. The decision left Ronaldo fuming, who was substituted just 10 minutes before the full-time. A clip from @TheNassrZone shows how the 39-year-old was shaking his hands off in disbelief towards the fourth official. He then quickly marched towards all the three officials who were standing at the center half of the pitch to shake hands.

Luis Castro and his coaching staff joined Ronaldo as both Portuguese demanded an explanation from the referee for dismissing Brozovic. The former Porto boss was seen imitating the incident to keep his stance while the Real Madrid icon was visibly frustrated while explaining the incident. However, the referee wasn’t interested in holding the conversation for much longer and started heading towards the tunnel. Meanwhile, Ronaldo’s protest wasn’t heard properly by the referee, which left the 5x Ballon d’Or winner more agitated.

He kept shaking his hands in frustration and constantly babbling behind the back of the referee, eventually walking away in resentment. Either way, Ronaldo doesn’t agree with the referee’s decision, who might have had reasons to make his judgment. Regardless, here’s a brighter side for Ronaldo and Al Nassr fans to consider!

Cristiano Ronaldo was given another trophy redemption after ending his lengthy goal drought

May 27, 2024, was the last time Cristiano Ronaldo scored for Al Nassr, a brace to be particular, which came during the 4-2 win over Al Ittihad in the final Saudi Pro League match. After that, he failed to score or win the King Cup of Champions against Al Hilal before uniting with Portugal for the UEFA Euro. That too, was a campaign that saw the veteran remain absent from the scoresheet.

What’s your perspective on:

Was Ronaldo's red card justified, or was the referee too harsh on the football legend?

Have an interesting take?

Ronaldo only clinched an assist during the group stage win over Turkey out of the five games, where in the final match, his side was knocked out by France in the quarter-finals. Hence, after 79 days, we have finally witnessed the former Manchester United star on the scoresheet. Notably, Al Nassr was ahead inside 8 minutes, thanks to an early strike of Ayman Yahya as the first half ended with a narrow score.

Nearing the hour mark, Ronaldo made it 2-0 with his iconic bottom post finish. While Al Taawoun tried to break the deadlock, the Knights of the Najd maintained their composure until the referee sent off Brozovic. Nevertheless, Ronaldo and Co. will again face Al Hilal in the final on August 17. Jorge Jesus’ side is coming in with a close call against Al Ahli Saudi.

Robert Firmino’s late strike was denied by a stoppage-time equalizer from Aleksander Mitrovic, with Al Hilal eventually sealing the victory on a 4-1 win on penalties. It remains to be seen whether Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates can take their previous revenge over their arch-rivals, that too, in the absence of Marcelo Brozovic.
