World Cup will come to an end today and with that, the world will shift its focus from FIFA leagues all around the world. After a week of rest, the Premier League will resume its season on the 26th of December. However, few leagues made headlines during the FIFA tournament itself, and not for good reasons.
Earlier this week, Australian A-League bosses awarded the final series to Sydney to host for the next three seasons and fans were not happy about this decision. However, this isn’t the first time a regional league has turned violent in the last 2 months. We know the incidents from Turkey and Russia where soccer turned into MMA.

The match was called off right after the violent scenes during a match between Melbourne Victory vs Melbourne City. A herd of fans broke onto the ground in the 21st minute and got violent with players.
Tom Glover got hit with the bucket
It all started when a fan threw a flare at the goalkeeper of Melbourne City Tom Glover, which he picked up and threw back at the crowd.

Mere seconds later, hell broke loose on the ground as a fan encircled him and one fame came and hit Glover with a metal bucket. After the exchange, players quickly left the ground and the match was abandoned.
According to reports, Tom Glover got a concussion. In the violent exchange, a match official was also injured. Football Australia made a statement after officials abandoned the match stating, “Following shocking scenes … where fans from the Melbourne Victory FC end entered the field of play, Football Australia match officials have abandoned the match..“

However, this isn’t the first case of a brawl on the ground that happened recently.
Russian soccer League got violent
While the World Cup is going on in Qatar, 2 weeks ago, a match from the Russian league made the news for the same reason. After a heated discussion, the game turned into an exchange of hits between the players of Zenit St. Petersburg and Spartak Moscow. The referee handed out six red cards and yellow after the chaos.

On a further note, Argentina vs the Netherlands in the World Cup had similar news that ended in a world record of Yellow cards. The referee handed out 18 yellow cards after a brawl broke out between players.
