Uruguay is heading home from Qatar. The World Cup campaign for the two-time champions is over even after their 2-0 win over Ghana. Uruguay started its World Cup campaign with a draw against South Korea. However, they lost in their 2nd game against Portugal. They didn’t even score a goal in their first two games of the competition. However, Luis Suarez dropped a masterclass against Ghana to help the team win 2-0.

Despite the win, Uruguay will be heading home after crashing out of the group stages. The World Cup campaign is over for Luis Suarez. South Korea managed to beat former Euro champions Portugal in their final game to qualify for the 2nd round.

South Korea had the same number of points as well as a goal difference as Uruguay. However, a greater number of goals scored will see them through to the Round of 16.

Luis Suarez left in tears amidst drama at the end

Uruguay superstar Luis Suarez was crying at full-time after realizing that South Korea had beaten Portugal. It was an emotional moment for the former Barcelona star, who might just have played his final World Cup.

This game was full of drama as Uruguay fans circled the referee after the game. They were protesting the referee’s decisions and the incident could have escalated. However, nothing can be changed as they will be heading home now.

During the game, Uruguayan midfielder Federico Valverde shouted and mocked the referee after Ghana missed their penalty. He was celebrating the penalty save in front of the referee.

Portugal had already secured their place in the Round of 16 after their win over Uruguay in their 2nd game of the group stages. They rested some of their important players in their final game. That came back to haunt them as South Korea capitalized and scored 2 goals against them.

South Korea had drawn their first game of the competition against Uruguay. However, they shockingly lost to Ghana in their 2nd game. But their resilience and commitment in their final game saw them qualify for the knockout stages of the World Cup.

Many were excited about the Ghana vs Uruguay fixture due to their unfortunate history of the 2010 World Cup. However, Ghana failed to take their revenge, and it was Suarez who downed them with contributions in both goals.
