Morocco took on the world champions France in the second semifinal for a place in the final. Although they produced a brilliant display, were not able to answer the two goals scored by the France team. France made it to the second consecutive final with a 2-0 win. France will face Lionel Messi-led Argentina in the final.

However, the loss against France didn’t go down well with the Moroccan fans in Belgium. They took to the streets of Brussels, where two-thirds of the population is of foreign origin. About 100 fans took to the streets and started throwing fireworks and objects at the police. They set the things kept on the roads on fire. Fans made one resident take down the France flag from the balcony.

Police were soon in action and responded with water cannons and tear gas. Although no significant damage was reported, police detained a few Moroccan supporters for causing the chaos. There were reports of violent incidents from neighboring France further after the game. Riots marred various cities in France, including the capital, Paris.
