NWSL will see a crucial encounter between Washington Spirit and Chicago Red Stars in a few days. Red Stars had a slow start to the season, however, their problems just got bigger as their star player Mallory Swanson got injured while being on national duty. That friendly match will haunt not only USWNT fans but also the Red Stars as they have lost three out of four matches this season.
On the other side of the spectrum, Washington Spirit haven’t lost a single match this season. Riding the high waves of victory, the team is sitting in 5th place but has a clear shot at the tabletop in the upcoming few matches.

Playing against Ireland in the first friendly, Mallory Swanson tore her patella tendon. She has gone through surgery but is definitely out for the rest of the season. Chicago Red Stars will be continuing the season, without their biggest star. Meanwhile, USWNT fans still can’t believe what they witnessed. The upcoming World Cup has a chance to take USWNT where no team has gone in soccer.
The national team is eying a three-peat of FIFA World Cups. Head coach Vlatko Andonovski will now have to look at other options that will replace Swanson and ensure more success at the event. According to a few reports, Angel City FC’s 2023 no.1 draft pick Alyssa Thompson might fill the space of injured Mallory Swanson.
