America has some of the brightest upcoming soccer players in the world. In the last few years, quite a few emerging stars have risen through local American soccer ranks. The MLS has also started gaining immense popularity in the last few years. Last year, the USYNT also broke a 16-year-old major streak after qualifying for a major international tournament.
As of yesterday, the U17’s aka the USYNT were competing in the U17 CONCACAF Championship. Unfortunately, the USA couldn’t get over the line in the final. The Mexico U17s managed to triumph over the USYNT. The final score of the game was 3-1.

However, American fans have been extremely critical of the final. Since the final whistle of the game, a few very controversial post-match opinions have surfaced on social media.
American soccer fans blame the referees!
The American teenagers were seemingly having their best CONCACAF Championship in years. Before the final, the USYNT was on a perfect run. The fans considered America as an absolute favorite to win the game. However, they never seemed to recover after conceding an early penalty in the 10 minute of the game. Tyler Hall and his team failed to consistently put pressure on the Mexican backline.
However, the fans have not taken this loss well. Instead, they’ve blamed the referees for poor decisions during the final. Let’s have a look at how the fans reacted to the loss.
This match was rigged for Mexico 🇲🇽
Congrats to the USYNT 🇺🇸, we were the better side and the future is bright!

We played well. Good experience for a few players. The players we had just couldn't execute in the final 3rd today and had a few defensive errors.

🇺🇸 boys played well. Just hard luck. Good luck USA for WC in 🇵🇪

The worst decision was the no call on the US player (can't remember his name) who's shirt was pulled after he megged a Mexico player in the box. Would've been 2-2. The 1st penalty to Mexico was fair, the 2nd one looked soft.

It was not rigged. We lost. Plain and simple. Have some self-criticism. Stupid mistakes and poor finishing cost us this game. Not good enough. This was a failure for our team.

Quite a few fans have seemingly blamed the referees. A few Mexican fans did try to come to their team’s defense by saying that the USYNT failed to present itself as a regular threat. However, the Americans are extremely adamant about the ‘wrong’ calls for both penalties. The USYNT fans truly believe that they could have had a better shot at the game if the referee got his decisions right.
Let’s have a look at how this controversial final actually panned out for the USYNT.
The USYNT couldn’t capitalize on their chances!
The USYNT has always had a habit of scoring early in games. That has always helped them set the tone of the match. However, the Americans failed to recover from Mexico’s early goal yesterday. After trailing by two goals, star midfielder, Pedro Soma banged in a header through a corner in the 69 minute.
That header at least gave the USA a sniff at getting back in the game. Oscar Verhoeven almost equalized the scoreline in the 80 minute. However, Mexican goalkeeper Paolo Bedolla was in a dangerous mood as he firmly blocked Verhoeven’s shot.

Things went from bad to worse after USYNT goalkeeper, Duran Michael Ferree received his second yellow card. America was down to ten men in the dying minutes of the game. Mexico sealed the deal in stoppage time after Isaac Martinez scored their second penalty. American soccer fans are still very sour about the loss. However, a few Mexican fans still claim that Mexico was the better team in the game and that the Americans desperately needed a major humbling.
