Can the USWNT outshine England at Wembley, or will the Lionesses defend their home turf?

English fans have lamented in plenty of how Emma Hayes coached the USWNT to an Olympic win when she could have coached the England NT instead. Hayes is all set to visit this atmosphere in England, in one of the country’s most iconic venues- the Wembley Stadium. Don’t be surprised if one or the other Brits boo at the US coach to express their aforementioned complaint. For the same reason, perhaps, England legend Catie Chapman hinted at the bizarre intricacies of the London-born Hayes facing the Lionesses on home soil.

The USA-England friendly clash at Wembley kicks off on November 29. Having played under Emma Hayes in Chelsea, Chapman seems eager to see how the former’s Wembley return pans out. She anticipates it to be a bit unusual. “I’m sure it will be quite strange, with her obviously being English and being in the English game and then managing the USA as an English manager,” Chapman said in a recent interview.

But, the former Arsenal star detailed that a coach going against their nation’s team is quite natural in football. She cited a club football example to prove the same. “But listen, it’s football, isn’t it? I think sometimes you put all that aside. We support clubs and then we play for other clubs. It’s that sort of relationship,” Chapman added, as compiled by the Ealing Times.

After all, Chapman went from being Emma Hayes‘ rival in Arsenal to her trustworthy mainstay at Chelsea. Knowing the USWNT boss quite well, the former Chelsea star stressed that she won’t be the least bit kind towards England in the Wembley friendly.

Chapman stresses that Emma Hayes won’t have any sentiments about facing her country in Wembley

Since her move to Chelsea, coach Emma Hayes has become synonymous with winning. She won a staggering 16 titles with the London-based outfit within a decade. Having just spent two months in the Team USA camp, she led a young generation to the US’ first Olympic gold in twelve years. Catie Chapman believes Hayes and Co. will look the English squad in the eye with the same winning zeal during the much-awaited Wembley showdown.

“I think she’ll get her head down. Emma’s a winner. She’ll want to win, irrelevant of it being England. But I’m sure it’ll be an exciting game,” the former Chelsea and Arsenal star said.

The 42-year-old gave flowers for Hayes’ surreal Olympic run with the USWNT. She hinted that Hayes knows very well how to do her job, citing the US won gold, despite leaving legends like Alex Morgan out of the roster. Chapman’s nice buildup to the US-Lioness battle makes us all the more eager to count the days till the US team flies to London for the Wembley faceoff.
