Can the USWNT maintain their dominance, or will Argentina finally break their losing streak?

The US Women’s National Team will be out again for one last time for the October window. Having completed their doubleheader against Iceland in a remarkable way, the American ladies will now be hosting Argentina at Louisville, Kentucky’s Lynn Family Stadium. The last time these two sides faced each other was back in February 2021, during an international friendly where the USA W demolished the ARG W 6-0.

Who knows? We are expected to see a similar kind of performance from Emma Hayes and Co., who have been flying high since their Paris Olympics triumph. Their recent back-to-back fixtures against Iceland ended in a similar 3-1 victory first on October 24 and then on October 27. They would surely be looking to conclude their “Victory tour” on a high note.

Meanwhile, the Argentina Women’s National Team is returning to action after more than a two-month hiatus. Germán Portanova and Co.’s last outing was against arch-rivals Uruguay on July 13, 2024, where the match ended in a 1-1 draw, before playing a 2-0 defeat against the same opponents on July 11, 2024.

Injuries

USWNT

Trinity Rodman, though recently back from a back injury, is a notable omission from the upcoming friendlies. She saw limited minutes in Washington Spirit’s recent 4-1 win over Racing Louisville and is now focusing on rehab ahead of the NWSL playoffs. Croix Bethune, meanwhile, was sidelined for the season after a meniscus tear sustained during her ceremonial first pitch at a Washington Nationals game in late August.

Argentina

Germán Portanova is expected to retain the obvious names in the starting XI. Luckily, he won’t be going through a difficult selection process as all the players are available at his disposal.

Of course, the Stars and Stripes ft. ladies are in hot red form, making them favorites for this clash. On top of that, La Albiceleste ladies are returning after a very long time, giving their rivals an upper hand. Hence we reckon the score will be USA 4-0 Argentina.
