American Alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin has taken the sports headlines around the world after becoming the greatest female Alpine skier in history. On Tuesday, the American won the giant slalom in Kronplatz, Italy, thus winning the women’s World Cup circuit. The record was previously held by her fellow countrywoman, Lindsey Vonn.

Shiffrin broke the record with her 83rd victory after finishing 0.45 seconds ahead of Switzerland’s Lara Gut-Behrami. She had a cumulative time of 2min 00.61sec across the intense challenging track. Federica Brignone of Italy was 1.43 seconds off the lead for third.
The four-time World Cup winner made the quickest time on her run after prevailing over all the obstacles in her second attempt a few hours later.
Morgan hails Mikaela Shiffrin
The whole country is proud of Mikaela’s success, with congratulations coming from the whole sporting industry. And in this list is her fellow countrywoman, Alex Morgan.
The two-time FIFA Women’s World Cup winner was also impressed by Shiffrin’s successful campaign. Morgan, besides congratulating the 27-year-old, also shared her picture on her story, thus hailing the Alpine champion.

Shiffrin was also congratulated by France’s Tessa Worley, who called Mikaela a true inspiration. “I think everyone kind of knew that it was going to happen,” said Worley.
“What I like is that she’s doing it in the right manner, she goes on the race and wins the first run and goes to win the race,” added Tessa who came fifth on Tuesday.
The champion was short of words
It was, of course, a heartwarming moment for Shiffrin, who was glimmering with sheer joy. “It’s hard to find words actually. I don’t think there are words to explain all the feelings because during the day it’s stressful, sometimes peaceful, sometimes nervous, sometimes exciting,” Shiffrin told Eurosport after the race.
“These days with two runs and everything, they are long days. They’re exhausting and at the end of it there’s too much excitement to feel,” she added.
