Megan Rapinoe’s total World Cup features so far

The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup will be Rapinoe’s fourth World Cup. The USWNT are eying their third World Cup trophy in a row. Megan Rapinoe made her international debut for the USWNT in 2006. However, she couldn’t be part of the 2007 World Cup squad after unfortunately sustaining two separate ACL injuries.

Her first World Cup appearance came in 2011. Since then, she’s been a mainstay in and around the USWNT squad. Rapinoe played a key role in the 2015 and 2019 World Cup wins.

Even at the age of 37, the double World Cup winner is eagerly looking forward to the upcoming 2023 campaign.

Some of Rapinoe’s best World Cup moments

Megan Rapinoe’s best World Cup campaign was the 2019 one, by far. She ended the tournament on a high after scoring six goals, just like her attacking partner Alex Morgan. However, Rapinoe took fewer minutes to achieve the landmark. Because of that, she won the Golden Boot for scoring the most goals in the tournament. Her winning the Golden Ball shortly after that was just a ‘cherry on the cake’ moment for her and the USWNT.

Her best World Cup moment was her ever-famous celebration against France during the 2019 World Cup. It was the quarterfinal of the campaign and Rapinoe scored a brace during that game before she decided to create the world-famous celebration.

Megan Rapinoe’s top goal from every World Cup appearance

The 2019 World Cup was Rapinoe’s best tournament by far. She proved to be the source of almost every USWNT goal. The USWNT legend scored four straight goals to help her country triumph over Spain and France. The most important goal she scored was from the penalty spot during the final.

The USWNT took the lead after Rapinoe cooly slotted home a penalty in the 62 minute. That calmly taken penalty proved to be the match-winner, and the US went on to win their second World Cup in a row.

A few iconic goal celebrations by Megan Rapinoe

Rapinoe’s most iconic goal celebration came during the quarterfinal of the 2019 Women’s World Cup. Megan Rapinoe was possibly in the best form of her career then. She defied the odds after spearheading her national side at the age of 34. She scored both of the USA’s goals against France. The second goal came during the 65 minute. The fans and Rapinoe both considered that match done and dusted after her second goal.

The smile on her face summed up the joy and happiness on everyone’s face in the USWNT camp. Their confidence seemed like they already knew that they were winning that World Cup campaign.

Megan Rapinoe’s best World Cup feat of all

In 2019, Megan Rapinoe achieved a very special feat apart from winning the World Cup. She shockingly became the oldest player to score in a FIFA Women’s World Cup final at the age of 34.

She rightfully acknowledged the fact that younger blood needs to be included on the USWNT roster. However, everything is sorted after she had a deep conversation with Vlatko Andonovski, USWNT’s head coach.

Andonovski has reportedly agreed to include Rapinoe in the World Cup squad as long as she’s fit and can actively contribute. In regard to that, Rapinoe is working towards getting to full fitness after a successful SheBelieves Cup in February.
