Lindsey Horan has found herself in deep waters following her recent comments. The USWNT questioned fans’ intelligence earlier this week in an interview claiming people in the United States still don’t understand soccer as Europe does. It did not sit well with a section of fans who slammed the player for her ‘egotistical’ comments. With things growing out of hand, Horan has finally broken her silence on the matter.
The USWNT superstar addressed the media and fans in an official press conference earlier this week. In the interview, Horan apologized to the public for her comments, admitting that she had not expressed herself well in some instances. “First and foremost, I would like to apologize to our fans. Some of my comments were poorly expressed, and there was a massive lesson learned for me. When I think about our fans, I love them so much. This team loves them so much, and I can’t begin to explain how much they mean to us,” she stated.

Lindsey Horan then continued, stating it was her honor to represent the United States. “To be able to put on this crest every single day, to be in this environment and go out and play in front of our fans and represent this national team. That is something, again it is my greatest honor, and the last thing I ever wanted to do was to often anyone in that manner. So yeah, I deeply apologize,” the USWNT captain concluded.
The United States will look to move on from the controversy as the side turns its focus to the upcoming CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup. The tournament will mark the team’s first appearance in a competitive contest after crashing out of the World Cup during the round of 16 last year. Yet Horan faced multiple issues regarding her statements from netizens.
