Despite getting knocked out in the round of 16, the 2022 World cup was one of the better ones for the USMNT. It surprised fans that they even qualify for the tournament, making it to the knockout stage was a performance no one expected from the national team. One more factor that had to be considered as the group the USA was in. It was England, Iran, and Whales alongside the USMNT. It wasn’t a monumental performance by any means. But they showed they will be a team to look out for in the next edition of the tournament. And forward, Timothy Weah played one of the most notable parts.

Out of 3 goals, USMNT scored the entire tournament, Timothy Weah scored one of those. The important goal that would get equalized by Wales in the last minute of the game. If he hadn’t scored the goal, the last-minute penalty would break the USMNT’s hope of knocking out.

His mother had an impact on his soccer

Before the USMNT played the group-defining match against Iran, Timothy Weah’s uncle would talk about him and his life in the USA. Michael Duncan talked to the New York Post about the soccer career of Weah. Along with many things, he talked about how Weah’s mother had an important role to play in his career.

He said, “For Timothy, a large part of his success–I would say 75% of it–is because of him, personally… But 25% of it is his mother. She was committed to him and his soccer from when he was 2 years old, before he even started walking.” He had also talked about her being the “main force” of the USMNT starlet success.

USMNT had come a long way but, the work is far from done. The next edition of the tournament will be in the USA along with Canada & Mexico. Fans are expecting USMNT to play significantly better as they have shown eye-opening improvements in their game.

The FIFA WC 2022 for USMNT

The USMNT kicked off their tournament against Wales and ended with one goal each. On the same day, England ripped Iran apart, winning the game 6-2. USMNT was going to face a team in their next game, which had just scored 6 goals in their first game of the tournament.

The midfield of USMNT smurfed English forwards. Although the game ended as a goalless draw, it felt more like a USA victory. The next match for the USA would be a must-win.
